Did the record operation succeed in these instances of the name change reverting to default settings?  Are the boards switching to MetaBoot mode?

I am using a MetaMotion R and my device keeps disconnecting. Sometimes this error will pop up and then i'll have to switch to "MetaBoot" mode and update. Has happened several times now.

Yes I have tried resetting it multiple times, even the hard reset were it is in MetaBoot state for a while. I'm fairly certain that this is a problem with Windows, not the board.

The MetaWear app needs to be updated to use the latest Android SDK, which addressed a bug with connecting to boards in the MetaBoot state.

I've tried to update the firmware, but it failed. After that, i wasn't able to connect to the board, so I've removed the battery, and put it on again pressing the button to start the board in metaboot

The one I have upgraded the firmware on appears as 'MetaBoot' when I scan, but I can't connect to it. The app spins and spins saying 'Connecting', but never succeeds. `Adb logcat` gives me:

it seems to upload ok, and it comes back as MetaBoot, but it never recovers from there.

I was trying to diagnose an issue yesterday.  Based on the troubleshooting instructions I tried to use the MetaBoot option in the IOS application.  My understanding is that I should see the device app

No, what was stated is that pressing the switch when the board powers on will switch the board into MetaBoot mode.  Using the button once the board is running the normal firmware should not trigger Me

We defined a macro triggered by pressing the switch, however, it sometimes ends up setting the board in MetaBoot mode. You mentioned in other threads that pressing the switch for a few seconds trigger

If you're using the iOS MetaWear app, you will need to switch the app into MetaBoot mode.

You can force the board into metaboot mode by holding down the button and inserting the battery.

@kyleWhat mobile device are you using to scan for the device?  Does the metaboot workarond used by @wmeinhold  fix your issue?
