I remember from the Kickstarter campaign that the wrist strap shown in some of the example pictures and videos was going to be available for separate ordering from ShapeWays.com. Is there any plan for this?

havent yet gotten my metawear kit... but I bought it after I read this article and watched the video:

Yes the components will fit the pocketband. I got my kit yesterday.

We used the awesome bands from the PocketBands guys for our hacks: http://www.pocketbands.com/

I highly recommend them.

We are in the process of talking to a few designer buddies to add new CAD files to our repertoire (i.e Shapeways store).
