Gesture dection using gyro and accel sensors

Is it possible to do gesture detection based on gyro/accel sensors using the Android/iOS API?  We have developed some algorithms in matlab based on some stream data captured from rpro to detect gesture.  What is the best way to "port" the algorithm to run on the mobile or the SoC chip?  Do we have to write our custom firmware for this kind of tasks?

    The easiest way is to write the algorithm in Java and Objective C / Swift and use the MetaWear API to retrieve the data from the sensors to feed into your functions.
