Precision of the accelerometers

Hi everybody!

I'm intending to use one of the sensors (Meta Wear R – 3 Axis IMU) for tracking the position of a person. I'm concerned about the precision of the sensor.
Is this sensor feasible for tracking position correctly?
What is the precision of the sensor? What is the level of noise in the signal?

Thanks
Emiliano

  • Sensor specs are given in the MMA8425Q's spec sheet:

What do you mean by tracking position?  Are you talking about relative position from a starting point or absolute position?
  • I mean from a starting point measuring walking distance (a pedometer).

Calculating walking distance can be done however using only accelerometer data typically will have accumulated error over time. You can use the high pass filter to filter out gravity and double integrate the data to give you an estimate of distance.
