Is it possible to collect data from the accelerometer without a phone connected ?

    Yes it is. This is part of the Logging Module functionality of the iOS and Android API. Check the documentations for how to do it and we will try to publish some example code/projects for this.

    Edit: In the mean time, you can check out our new sample app that demonstrates how to use the logging module with the onboard temperature sensor. https://github.com/mbientlab/TemperatureLogger  We will also be posting a tutorial on this app and its functionality soon.
