Can we attach one small SMD LED through gpio pin? If yes, can we conditionally blink it at some trigger point?

Ah, i realized you were asking about SMD LED not attaching a singular LED. As long as it doesn't require firmware level code, like with a NeoPixel strand, it should be fine. Which SMD strand are you specifically looking at?

Eric, I am not using any strand or strip like NeoPixel. I want to attach single SMD LED.

You can attach that between a GPIO and the 3V or regulated 3V pin, but you will need to add a series resistor to limit current. GPIOs should not exceed 5mA.

You can use the GPIO module as well as the timer module to create a simple blinking pattern. Any system event can trigger your timer.
