Fluctuation in Barometer readings

Hello,
I am using MetaMotion R device but the barometer sensor in it is showing much fluctuations in pressure readings even when the device is put at a fixed position and not moved. How can I get the actual and correct readings? Is there any kind of filter which can be applied?

    • How long were you gathering data with the barometer?
    • What is the surrounding environment where you were gathering data like?  

    You can pick up another barometer and see if it also experiences the same fluctuations.  The BMP280 has various oversampling and filter modes that you can use to see if there are any improvements with your data.

  • I am using pressure sensor present in MetaMotionR . Just for testing purpose , I collected the pressure data inside a room for about 25 seconds at 0.99Hz by placing the device at one place.  But the pressure is showing much fluctuation. Although the pressure should be almost constant as the device was not moved from its position.  
    In my project, pressure has to play a important role as i have to detect falls. So, I am thinking of detecting the falls from the pressure difference and change in acceleration that occured during fall.  But the pressure readings are not reliable.

  • Fluctuations are expected in sensor readings and small changes in the environment will affect pressure readings.  As mentioned previously, try the various oversampling and filter settings outlined in the datasheet to see which ones best suite your use case.

    Have you at least tried recording data while the device falls?

    Do you really need pressure data to detect falls?  The accelerometer can detect falling quite well as the measured acceleration drops to 0g.
